Baozhao Poetry

BaoZhao is one of the most famous writers in the Southern Dynasties, his poems did not receive enough attentions when he was alive, but had been being thought highly by later generations. From the20th century, research of BaoZhao had been being one of the hot topics among researches of the Southern and Northern Dynasties. Researches from explorations of BaoZhao’s identity to analyses of his poems, the area is wide-ranging and the content is abundant. If I want to find something new, should I do this study from unusual vision. My dissertation discusses BaoZhao’s poetry from four aspects:"aesthetic","imagery","structure" and "affect". Now let me introduce:The first chapter discusses "aesthetic" of BaoZhao’s poetry, which concludes three parts:"background of ages","tendency of culture" and "characteristic of BaoZhao’s poetry"."Background of ages" mainly discusses the political environment when BaoZhao was live. That age was so dangerous for men of letters to live, many people were afraid of being killed, therefore their articles or poems always had feeling of fear."Tendency of culture" of the Liu-song Dynasty, handwriting, painting and sculpture represents the tendency of aesthetic at that age:not only attached importance to momentum, but also paid attention to exquisite things."Imagery" and "structure" of BaoZhao’s poems also reflects this thendency. The most important characteristic of BaoZhao’s poetry is that his poems have a lot of temperaments. My paper discusses this characteristic from three aspects which is "vitality"、"static temperament" and "flowing temperament".The second chapter discusses "imagery" of BaoZhao’s poetry, which concludes two parts:"selection of imagery" and "expression of imagery ", the former part takes common things of nature for examples, discussion around four aspects:"animals"、"plants"、"climate" and "mountain、river、wind". The latter part concludes two small parts:"decoration of imagery " and "combination of imagery ". Imagery of poems always contains strong emotions. A poem usually has a few of imagery, this combination often reflects a poet’s tendency of aesthetic. Purpose of this chapter is to analyze "imagery" of BaoZhao’s poetry how to reflect the feature "sorrowful deep feeling".The third chapter discusses "structure" of BaoZhao’s poetry, which concludes four parts:"features of the suits of BaoZhao’s poems"、"features of the beginning of BaoZhao’s poems"、"features of the ending of BaoZhao’s poems" and "features of some special structures of BaoZhao’s poems".At the first part, there are two small parts:"features of the suits of yuefu" and "features of the suits of gushi". Features of the suits of BaoZhao’s yuefu have a lot of spirits and features of the suits of BaoZhao’s gushi have a lot of wonderful words. Features of the beginning of BaoZhao’s poems have five styles:"amazing beginning"、"narrate in detail"、"general describing"、"general narrating" and "general expressing". Among them the first style and the second style are the most astonishing styles, which attract people with tighten sentences. Features of the ending of BaoZhao’s poems have seven styles:"unspoken"、"interrogate"、"pray"、"state ambitions"、"comfort"、"general expressing" and "general describing". Among them the first style is the most individual ending in BaoZhao’s poems, which has strong feelings and lingering rhythm. Though "Interrogate"、"pray"、"state ambitions"、"comfort" styles have clear purpose、sincere emotion, they not have the former style’s aftertaste. Features of some special structures of BaoZhao’s poems have three small parts:"structure of questions"、"structure of contrast" and "structure of turning points". The first part discusses "questions" in the form and ask the results of the two aspects of the discussion, we can see that the essence of the" questions " is to "cry out against injustice". The second part discusses from the perspective of the sentence, how to reflect the passage of time contrast analysis "the sentence into words and adjacent two pairs (dual)" What are the characteristics of. The third part has the same sentence point of the second part, respectively discusses what are the characteristics of " negative turning point"、"selective turning point" and "narrative perspective conversion".The fourth chapter discusses "affect" of BaoZhao’s poetry, which concludes three parts:"affect of skills "、"affect of aesthetic" and "affect of spirit". The first part discusses the theory of poetry, which said poetry should combine "point, line and surface" that description、structure and spirit should be get together. The second part has two small parts:"affect of imagery of aesthetic" and "affect of poems’ type". The former mainly talk about Baozhao’s poems how to inherit poetry imagery aesthetic, and what are the implications to the aesthetic of the descendants of poetic images. The latter mainly discuss questions from three aspects:a singing three high of GeXing, strong emotions of suit of poems, fresh flow of four verses. The third part concludes three small parts:"lyrical approach reflects the state of mind of the poet","struggle between the officialdom and the hermit" and "more frustration more bravely advance", said the spirit of personality of BaoZhao’s poetry, how to inherit predecessors and dip irrigate descendants.In conclusion, expound writing ideas、characteristics and shortcomings of this paper.
