This article generally tease out many of the folk beliefs in Hunan of the Ming and Qing dynasties, using local Chronicles as main materials, supplementing by literati corpus, notes and other materials during Ming and Qing dynasties in Hunan provinces, and classifying folk beliefs then discussing the folk beliefs one by one. In addition, by making the type of chart of gods belief from the perspective of historical geography, building out the panoramic view of Hunan province during Ming and Qing dynasties, through carrying on the preliminary analysis of the distribution of the gods, summarizing characteristics of the folk beliefs in the distribution of Hunan province during the Ming and Qing dynasties, which are quantity, widespreading, variety, notable regional features, and its reasons are described briefly. This article aims to finishing building the basic framework of the Hunan province folk belief, setting up folk beliefs close-up view of information in Hunan area during Ming and Qing dynasties, laying a solid foundation for more in-depth study.
