In the present archaeological data concerning the tombs of the Liao dynasty, thetombs belonging to the queen family take a significant part. This paper intends to takethe most representative queen family of ShuLü, whose tombs are located at Guanshanand Kulun, as the main research object, and make a comprehensive study on theissues of burial grade, structures, mural and unearthed relics of this family, seen fromthe perspective of art history. By investigating the structure of Guanshan and Kuluntombs, after the M4in Guanshan, the graves were built in the shape of octagon. Theoctagonal tombs and the unearthed Tantrism relics show the close relation with theEsoteric Buddhism belief of this family. The images of travelling with camel, camelpulling vehicle, five flags and drums, as well as door-god on the murals were allrelated to the identity and power of the Queen family. During the period of the ShuLüfamily in power, it had a significant impact on the tomb system in the Liao dynasty,which furthermore reflected the important role of this family in the politics, economy,and even social life of the Liao dynasty.
