The research on the murals from tombs of Liao Dynasty by stages is currently a new subject and topic in this field. Based on the research on 110 tombs from Inner Mongolia, Liaoning Province, the north of Hebei province and Datong, Shanxi Province, according to analyzing and comparing the difference in pattern, technique and contents of the murals of tombs from different regions and diverse nationalities, together with the stages of tombs and typical artifacts, the author departs all the murals into three stages and five sections and summarizes the features of different stages. The murals of Liao Dynasty embody the characteristics of both Han and Khitan tradition and have their own regional characteristics. The author also discusses the reason why the Cathay has the mind of incorporating things of diverse natures.
