Application Of Digital Effects In The Documentary Creation

The so-called special effects refer to the special visual effects.In the past many images that cannot be directly acquired could be accomplished by digital effects. With the development of the film industry and the development of science and technology，digital effects have gradually become the expression elements of a film，or have becomea kind of audio-visual language. However, the digital effects, serving as the expression elements, are still relatively limited when applied in documentary creation. Some documentary "authenticity" problemswill arise spontaneously.This paper will have a detailed study of digital effects used indocumentary creation considering the documentary "authenticity" problems, and explore how digital effects technology applied to small cost documentary to improve its ornamental and artistry values, which could provide a new train of thought for more students or the small cost documentary directors.The first chapter is the introduction, and the second chapter describes the role of digital effects on the documentary. The third chapter focuses on the basic methods and principle of digital effects, while the fourth chapter explains the application of digital effects inthe special documentary film form. The fifth chapter tells the storyof the creation methods of the digital documentary "Black Pottery" produced during the graduate study and its use of special effects. Thefinal chapter is the conclusion and prospect.This paper employs four kinds of research methods, namely the literature research method, observation research method, case study method, and practice method respectively. Literature research is mainly about collecting relevant domestic and foreign books, periodicals, and Internet access, especially Chinese Internet Literat ure. Observation research is to observe the films in a consciousand purposeful way. The films for observation, study and analysis include documentary channel DISCOVERY "Animal Planet","The World AfterPeople","Sea Of Green"; the British Broadcasting Television (BBC)"Walking With Dinosaurs","Lost World","Animal Games","Planet Earth", the French film "White Star"; CCTV’s "Discovery","Archives","ManAnd Nature","The Imperial Palace","Old Summer Palace","Zheng He West". Case study method selects digital effects representatives from domestic and foreign documentaries for research and analysis, summarizes their advantages, and discusses how to use these cases to domesticdocumentary creation and small cost documentary creation. This method goes throughout the whole paper, with each chapter. Creative practice research summarizes the use of digital effects among domestic andforeign documentaries for further research, and re-creates the documentary. This research method combines theory with practice, and fullyshows that digital special effects can be used in the small cost documentary creation, and can improve the small cost documentary’s appreciation and artistry value considerably.The innovation point of this paper is the wide range study, summary and analysis of the use of digital special effects among a large number of domestic and foreign documentaries. The paper employs the creative practice research method to apply digital effects in my personal documentary creation. It aims to have a deep study of digital effects in the documentary by means of my personal experience.With the development of science and technology, kinds and types of digital special effects are continuously updated. Digital special effects will have more and better use in the documentary creation.
