On Yuan Mei Garden Literature

Yuan Mei is one of the most influential writers during the middle of the QingDynasty. Many experts and scholars are devoting themselves to the study of Yuan Mei.However, the attention to Yuan Mei’s garden literature is rarely seen. The object ofthis paper is Yuan Mei’s garden literature, which is in order to sort and study itsachievement and influence systematically.This paper is divided into three parts including introduction, main body andconclusion. In this paper,the creation background is analyzed, achievement, artisticcharacteristic, thought connotation and influence of Yuan Mei’s garden literature.Firstly, the object, reason and significance of this thesis are introduced in theintroduction. Garden literature is defined, the importance and necessity of studyingthis topic are pointed out and then the research contents and methods are put forwardby reviewing the history and status of this study.Secondly, there are six chapters in the main body.The first chapter gives introduction to Yuan Mei in the first place, such as YuanMei’s family, lifetime, works and evaluation and so on. Next, the close relationshipbetween Yuan Mei and Sui Yuan is reflected. Landscape activities of Yuan Mei aresummarized in the end.The second chapter focuses on the creative history of Yuan Mei’s gardenliterature. His garden literary works are classified and grouped. Moreover, the gardenliterature factors in ‘Suiyuan Shihua’ and ‘Zi Bu Yu’ are also discussed in this chapter.In the third chapter, Yuan Mei’s landscape poetries are divided into fourcategories and appreciations of them are categorized in aspects of languagestyle,ideological content and presentation skills.In chapter four,‘Suiyuan liuji’ and other gardening literatures of Yuan Mei arestudied, aiming to generalize their artistic characteristics.In the fifth chapter, the connotation of Yuan Mei’s garden literature on the spiritlevel is scratched, and Yuan Mei’s garden thought is analyzed, philosophy and reclusive thought to reveal the two thought themes,’Sui’ and ‘Yin’ are also exposed.In the sixth chapter, the role and influence of Yuan Mei’s garden literature is thecore study, and its positive effects on later ages is also generated.At last, it comes to the conclusion that Yuan Mei’s garden literature is of greatliterature significance. It is a try to arouse Academic circle’s extensive attention onYuan’s literature study.
