Austrian composer Franz Seraphicus Peter Schubert (31January1797–19November1828) was the only Vienna native composer who lived in the transitionperiod during the end of classical era and beginning of romanticism era. He is the firstcomposer with pure romantic spirit, a pioneer in European romantic music andrecognized as “the first person German art song history". He is famous for thecreation of art songs, but he also created many other genres of music.Unfortunately,for various reasons, Schubert has been misunderstood as only art songs writers for along time until the late nineteenth century. With many outstanding instrumentalists tobe published, Schubert was rediscovered as a composer of instrumental music by theworld. His instrumental works often bear the mark of art songs, which are full ofsingability and melody. This song is the first song of Schubert’s last three sonatas andthe creation ideas were designed when Schubert had just finished his first individualwork concerts after one year of Beethoven death. Because of his extreme worship ofBeethoven, there is a profoundly tang of Beethoven in the music. The sometimesstaunch and sometimes mellow melodies are intertwined harmoniously in this music.It is a perfect blend of “Beethoven” and “Schubert “.This paper is divided into three parts: The first part is an overview of Schubert’slife and major instrumental works, and a brief introduction to the creative backgroundof piano sonata D.958; The second part is the analysis of piano Sonata D.958musiconcology from two perspective: musical structure and sound characteristics; The thirdpart is the playing tips of piano Sonata D.958. The author first classified each parts bymusical characteristics and grasped the overall music performance, then analyzed thefactors which affecting the intensity of play in order to get closer to the original look.Afterwards the author explained the most used or most distinctive playing techniquescombining with her own exercises experiences of the work. Finally, the author gave acomprehensive analysis of keys touch, intensity and pedal with combination of thework’s characteristic (or can be called the focus or difficulty) and author’s ownplaying experience. The artistic value of Schubert piano sonatas has been recognized by the world,and even become the concert tracks by many famous foreign pianist. However, frommany domestic books, journals and magazines, it can be seen that: the researches aremainly focused on Schubert’s vocal music works, while relatively less researches havebeen done on the piano sonatas. The author presented her own ideas and methods ofplaying by researching on C minor Piano Sonata D958whole music, with the hope ofgiving helpful enlightening to other players.
