In Chinese literary world, Yan Lianke is a unique one, he has attracted a lot ofresearchers’ attention. During his30years’ writing time, he dedicated a lot of good workswhich pointed strictly to the people’s soul. But in recent years,he always name himself asa "writing traitor","the unfilial of the realism believers"…His own evaluation to himselfseems to suggest the changes in his writing process——from completely realism to try toescape from the shackles of realism. He defined his work as "magic realism" and he alsohas a definition of the term:abandon the logical relationship of the surface of the real-lifeand search for a truth which" does not exist",the truth that “can not see”masked by thereal truth. Yan ’s "magic realism" absorbed a lot of nutritious from the Western modernismliterature and many Chinese traditional literature, these nutritious sprinkled on the soil ofthe contemporary Chinese literature, he improved and innovative them, and the results arequite gratifying.Introduction part: This essay describes some of the major works of Yan’s research,introduced Yan’s definition of the "magic realism", make an overview of "magicrealism"’s features, the real possibility of the impact of Western modernism, and outlinesof the objectives, the significance of the topic and the major research methods I use in thisessay.The body is divided into four parts. The first part analyzes Yan’s "magic realism"creation from the perspective of contemporary literature. Mainly analyze his creativeprocess, his creative approach on Chinese realism, as well as his literary ideas and pursuitof the "magic realism".The second part stresses Yan’s "magic realism" and the Chinese folk literature tradition.It is reflected in three aspects: first, the importance of the story telling, second, the dreamof the small and peaceful country, third, his clever use of the Chinese language.The third part stresses the receiving and creation of the western modernism literature.Itis about how Yan received the modernism: first, ignore the external description, second, thepursuit of the structure; third, the extremely absurdity story content.The fourth part is the significance of "magic realism" among the world modernismliterature. It is mainly about Yan’s unique creation of the contemporary Chinese literature and the significance of the world literature.Conclusion: Yan creats his own way of writing by borrowing the skills of westernmodernism and making creations on the Chinese tradition. At the same time, this essaypointed out the limitations and inadequacies in Yan’s work.
