Conceptual art is one of the main factors in post modern art, which makesthe boundary of artistic forms be more indistinct. Meanwhile, it alsomakes the deep change for the medium of sculptures, which are differentfrom the traditional one. While, as the one of the traditional mediumsculpture which is reflected in the modeling with the impact of changein the times. At the same time, material plays a very important role inthe process of its development. The topic of this dissertation is madeup by these factors. The main points of this paper are the influence ofthe concept and the role of materials in the modeling. The analysis focuseson typical sculptors cases in the evolution of Western art in TwentiethCentury which are based on these two points. Through study thecorrespondence between concept and modeling in artic context of differenteras. And then, according to my own experience to explain the relationshipbetween concept and modeling in the context of contemporary art, also todescribe the challenges in the development of modeling which brought byconcept and materials, as well as the attitudes for that. Nowadays, withthe era of globalization of culture, multi-cultural are integrated. Underthis background, the correct understanding of the relationship and theroles of these factors, which contribute to have a clear judgment on somemethods of contemporary sculpture. To provide the necessary premise onexploration in the modeling of sculpture, and this is also thesignificance of this paper.
