Rock music has becoming a new form music industry since the middle of the20th century and developed rapidly after a stable development of the global economy.At that time, because of its new forms and unique expressions, rock music completelyfitted the young people’s psychological needs of freedom and self-recognition. Andwith its strong innovative and inclusive characteristics, rock music spread rapidly allover the world overnight. As a foreign culture, rock music has been studied by somescholars with a extreme and one-sidedness view. In-depth discussion and research arerare. Punk music, as an important branch of rock music, represents the culture andspirit of rock ’n’ roll. This paper takes the history of the development of both Britainand American punk music as a clue, compares the developing trace of punk music inthis two different countries and tries to refine the similarity of its developments.Therefor we can do some explorations and achieve a summary of the roots of punkrock culture and spirits. Unlike any other scholars before, the writer has focused onthe essence of music itself and traced back to the real environment of western rockmusic rather than just over-concerned about the rebellious of punk music. The writertries to discover the impacts and interactions in the contact of punk music and thesocial environment of human beings in western world. Through the explorations andanalysis of the inner nature and the historical reasons of the rebellious of punk music,we try to explain this rebellious of punk music by looking at the inherentincompatibility of sub-culture and mainstream culture and interpret the social functionand historical significance of the birth of punk music.
