A group of education intellectuals who had an audio-visual awareness showed themselves during the process of educational film movement in the Republic of China. In the1920s in China, these intellectuals, with image thinkings, ideal and passion, not only motivated modern media tools, such as the film and broadcast, to get into education, but also made them become a very important transmission way in the process of education, in the meantime, promoted the diversification and modernization of education form. The way they combined the audio-visual thinking with education and assisted education with films greatly improved the efficiency of education and breadth of knowledge popularization.In addition, they also recorded the humanities style, leaving a very precious image data for posterity. What actually is the group of audio-visual intellectuals in the period of the Republic of China? How does audio-visual intellectuals in Jinling University infect audio-visual education in the period of the Republic of China? What is their influence for posterity? This thesis discusses the value and significance of audio-visual intellectuals in the period of the Republic of china from following several parts.The first part analyzes the intellectuals from the theoretical level of the essence, connotation and social significance. The period of the Republic of China is the period of transition from old to modern intellectuals of China, and a special branch of modern intellectuals-the audio-visual intellectual has appeared from this period. The second part focuses on the internal formation of the audio-visual intellectual in the period of the Republic of China. According to their different social status, the intellectuals of that period can be divided into three categories-education reformer, social activist and academic intellectuals, these three kinds of social status make them undertake the different work in the process of promoting the audio-visual education. The third part analyzes the group of the audio-visual intellectuals in Jinling University, to highlight the performance of the intellectual representative that is regarded as the object of study and summarize the unique contribution of the audio-visual intellectuals in Jinling University. The forth part discusses the influence of the audio-visual intellectuals for modern education.In conclusion, the group of the audio-visual intellectuals shows a profound impact on the creative thinking of audio-visual education and the audio-visual education after the period of the Republic of China, not only combining education with technology, but also greatly expanding the educational culture of the Republic of China. This special and advanced group, influences and changes the Chinese society in the period of the Republic of Chinese through their own ways.
