Burials in pits is a phenomenon that bury dead in pits or cellars that are not used. It is a special way to dealing with the dead body, and it is different from tombs. So it is one of the important data to the research of prehistoric humans, and it can provid information for a more comprehensive understanding of prehistoric society.This paper selects the regin Jingwei basin, collects the founding of burials in pits in the sites. Then divides Neolithic period of Jingwei basin into three stages of cultural development for Pre-Yangshai, Yangshao and Longshan, introduces the case of discovery of burials in pits in typical sites of each cultural stage, and sorts the relics accouding to the different status of human bone in pits. After that, summarizes the charateristics of such relics, and then generalizes the changing process of time of this phenomenon. Further, makes a comparison between burials and burials in pits of each site, incidentally summarize the other special kind of burial way. At least, investigats the reasons of burials in pits, and discusses some related problems.This paper argues that the phenomenon of burials in pits is complicated, the property of this relics is also relatively complicated. So it may be divided three states: buials, dealing with non-normal deaths and sacrifice.
