Referential policies for men of letters in the Northern Song Dynasty greatly influenced and boosted the development and prosperity of painting and calligraphy art at that time. Besides the royalty appreciation and collection, private collectors also played an important role in this. As a refined scholar, a collector, also a near-rolyaty at the same time, Wang Shen was one of the representatives of private collector in Northern Song Dynasty. The thesis centers on Wang Shen’s collection, reviews the popularity of painting and calligraphy collection during his times. Special speculations and conclusions are given to the origin and whereabouts of the collection in Wang Shen’s "Bao Hui Tang", the friendship between Wang Shen and the other collectors in Northern Song Dynasty, his forgery of others’s work, the feature of his collection and his capability of collecting, aiming to advance a through and profound research on Wang Shen’s painting and calligraphy collection. |
