The theory of natural beauty is an essential part of Imamichi Tomonobu’s aesthetic theory, the study of which lacks of profundity at present in academic circles. The issue of natural beauty has become appealing greatly to theorists since twenty-first century, and the paper intends to provide certain enlightenments for the current poetical life theoretically and practically from the standpoint of research subject, that is, the theory of natural beauty of Imamichi Tomonobu.Firstly, the profound cultural sources account for Imamichi Tomonobu’s attention to the research of natural beauty, which concern Yamato’s aesthetic consciousness and further aesthetic categories based on those natural aesthetic consciousness. Secondly, the integrated formation of theoretic system for Imamichi Tomonobu’s study of natural beauty benefits from the critical assimilations from Kant’s thought and phenomenology, of which the standpoints of "nous" and "being" become the theoretical basis of Imamichi Tomonobu’s theory of natural beauty.Imamichi Tomonobu’s study of natural beauty starts from the essence of natural beauty and the natural aesthetic consciousness of the subject and he introduces the concept of "light" while exploring the former and comes to the conclusion that the light is the alternative name of being for it possesses the metaphysical spirits. Imamichi Tomonobu pays attention to the importance of "life" in the issue of "form" of natural beauty and regards that the form that reveals the fitness of natural objects is beauty. Imamichi Tomonobu concerns two ingenious concepts,"calonologia" and "phase of natural beauty", while exploring the elements of aesthetic consciousness. Calonologia is the narration of attainment about the consciousness of beauty. Different from the consciousness of daily life, the consciousness of beauty refers to the realm generated from integration of subject and object and Imamichi Tomonobu explores certain concepts such as imagination, interpretation, and nihilism while discussing the attainment of the realm. Imamichi Tomonobu illustrates in detail the characteristics of the "phase of natural beauty" through comparative analysis with the "phase of artistic beauty".Imamichi Tomonobu’s theory of natural beauty has great significances for contemporary society, and he thinks that the background of technique-associated modern society could give rise to many contradictory issues between human and nature, the solution of which partly depends on those ideologies as "love" and "freedom" while cultivating the consciousness of subjectivity between human and nature. The reality of modernization motivates Imamichi Tomonobu to carry out the theory of natural beauty which is worth putting a high value, which is helpful for us to solve the double troubles concerning with technique and nature.
