In December30th,2003, South-to-North Water Transfer Project started, which caused high attention of the government and the public. The project involved a total of328000immigrants. The process of immigrants in the resettlement place to begin a new life is the process of immigrants’ social adaptation. This paper take an immigrant village of Xi Chuan county in Nan Yang of Henan province as the research object, mainly study on the immigrants’ adaptation situation under the given resettlement mode. In addition, the author finds that immigrants, as the initiative main body, will adopt a set of strategies to enhance their ability, and their efforts change the implementation effect of immigration policy as well.This thesis consists of six chapters:Chapter one is introduction. The first part briefs the research background, the second part is research review, the last part gives a brief introduction of the object and the methods.Chapter two:introduction of basic situation of immigration and emigration. Section1is the basic situation of emigration, section2is the basic situation of immigration.Chapter three:the resettlement mode of D county. The first part introduces Resettlement and compensation method of South-to-North Water Diversion Project Immigration; the second part elaborate two different resettlement mode of D village. Chapter four give detail description of social adaptation of immigrates from D village. The author divided social adaptation into four dimensions-economic adaptation, life adaptation, relation adaptation and cultural adaptation, and illustrate immigrates’ adaptation condition in detail. Then the author analyzes how resettlement mode affect immigrates’ adaptation situation. Economic adaptation, focusing on relocation makes immigrants production environment and of labor has undergone great changes, loss of condition in the sideline, so that immigrants income, resulting in adjustment difficulties; Adaptation of life, great centralized resettlement mode improve the living conditions of migrants, medical education conditions and traffic conditions, the improvement of living conditions enhanced the confidence of the immigrants to adapt to the new life, the immigrants generally adapt to the level of their own life with a higher rating; adaptation of social relations, focusing relocation the resettlement mode prevents the contact of a small number of immigrants and the home of their loved ones, need to contact some strange locals, immigrants relationships to adapt burden; the centralized resettlement of immigrant acculturation also had an impact, the D Village immigration most of the time living in the comparison familiar with the area, the original values, habits, cultural traditions within immigrant groups play a role in their knowledge and understanding of the power of the new place of culture is suppressed to a certain extent, increase the difficulty of immigrants to adapt to the local culture.Chapter five is migrates’adaptation strategies. Immigrants’ adaptation strategies are classified into three types:first, refactoring relationship with immigration; second, the creation of new social relations with local people; third, deal with relations with the government "right", through the three methods, the immigration initiatively improved their adaptation.The sixth chapter is the summary and sublimation. First the author makes a summary of the immigrants’ social adaptation under the resettlement mode and adaptive strategies, and reiterates the purpose and significance of the research. Then according to the conclusion, the author reflect on our country’s resettlement mode and gives advices from the government aspect and immigrates’aspect.
