Investigation can help us to look for the evidence and speculate what happened.The results of investigation have a great impact on the trial. Because the ancientChinese science and technology is not developed, it is not easy to find out the truthfor the judges. Applying investigative methods appropriately is very important forjudges to detect the ancient cases. It can be said that the investigation is the basis andsafeguard of the trial so that each dynasty attaches great importance to investigationmethods used in the judicial practice.“Zhe Yu Gui Jian” is an investigativemasterpiece. The cases of this book are from several dynasties so it is typical. Thisbook totally contains three hundred and ninety-five cases, most of which usinginvestigative methods or investigative thoughts to detect cases. This book contains alot of content about the ancient investigation so that it provides valuable informationfor future study of ancient history investigative practice.Investigative activities experienced a development course, from germination toprosperity. Investigative activities were originally produced intended to carry out afair punishment which mainly based on “God-judging”. In the Zhou Dynasty,investigators began to interrogate suspects. As time went by, science and technologycontinued to progress. From the Qin Destiny, the types of detective methods wereincreasing that could investigate more cases. The behavior of the investigators can beused as a classification criterion. Investigative methods can be divided into publicinvestigative methods and secret investigative methods. Public investigative methodsinclude the interrogation, document inspection, forensic testing, field exploration andinvestigation experiments. Secret investigation methods contain the secret detections,secret identify, track, monitor and cosmetic investigation. These investigativemethods were widely used in ancient investigative practice solving many difficultcases.Investigative methods improve gradually in the long history. In the early days ofjudicial practice, the investigators had to rely on “God” to find the direction of the investigation. The generation of this kind of situation is mainly due to the low level ofscience and technology, people’s cognitive level is restricted so that they had to turnto god for help. With time goes by, the level of science and technology graduallyimproved. Many scientific investigation methods are used to search for clues to solvecrimes. The investigation which relies on “God” to find the clues has gradually exitthe stage of history. Torture as a very important investigative method of interrogation,once became one of the most frequently used investigation method. With the declineof words evidence that force decline and the improvement of physical evidence offorce, torture is constantly evolving. A variety of investigative method used at thesame time embodies the ancient science of investigation. Whether using a variety ofopen investigations at the same time, using a variety of secret investigations or usingopen investigations and secret investigations at the same time, are able to improve theefficiency and accuracy of the case investigation. Integrated use of variousinvestigative methods highlights the scientific of ancient investigation.Ancient investigators can use ancient investigative methods, which unlikemodern detection methods which contain a large number of high-tech, to detect manycases. As a source of contemporary investigative methods, the ancient investigativemethods can guide contemporary investigators using investigative methods to detectdifficult cases.
