Traditional Chinese Medicine Cultural Heritage And Protection Of Geographical Indications

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a wonderful work of Chinese civilizations, it came from ancient savage and left glorious footsteps in the civilizational history of Chinese nation during thousands of years. Under the influence of Chinese civilization, TCM has its own system, and has been the representative in the traditional medical system in the word. And it has been still an important part of the health care system. Traditional Chinese Medicine, as a traditional medicine culture, it not only contains profound Chinese cultural heritage, but also a huge economic value.The American journalist THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN wrote in his book "the world is flat" that in this day and age, whether you agree or refuse, everyone involves in the tide of globalization. Since we entered the21st century, Traditional Chinese Medicine civilization has been also facing enormous cultural impact of economic globalization, its heritage and development are facing a huge crisis. Therefore, both in-depth understanding of the status of cultural heritage aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine and on this basis, the use of geographical indications for protection can not only improve their competitiveness in the international TCM market, but also improve influential strength of Chinese culture among the world.How to take advantage of GI protection, protect of the cultural heritage of medicine and achieve good development in the pharmaceutical industry are the main subjects of this paper. In this paper, we use the cultural heritage Traditional Chinese Medicine in the protection of geographical indications as a starting point, through introducing of the development of Traditional Chinese Medicine culture and heritage overview and analyzing of the protection status of geographical indications for current Traditional Chinese Medicine, we summarize problems happened in the protection of geographical indications of the Traditional Chinese Medicine, and on the basis of summary and analysis of main international system of protection of geographical indications, we propose relevant measures to improve that. It is to effectively protect Traditional Chinese Medicine, the essence of the cultural heritage, the legitimate interests of the pharmaceutical industry in the international and domestic markets, and to promote the healthy development of the Traditional Chinese Medicine industry.
