Reading is one of basic language skills and the important way of getting information.Improvement of English reading ability as one of the important teaching tasks in senior highschool, however, is the part that most learners and teachers think hard to improve. Manyfactors influence reading ability, but affective factors and reading strategies are the focus ofresearches home and abroad. Anxiety is one of the most affective factors. Teaching andtraining reading strategies is one of the important tasks in senior high school and is therequirement of new curriculum standard. However, national researches pay more attention tosubjects in college and university, less to senior high learners.This paper mainly talks about the correlation between English reading anxiety andreading strategy use. Subjects are from senior high students in grade one. With the help ofSPSS, analysis results show that the subjects have reading anxiety quite commonly, lessfrequency of reading strategy use and the correlation between anxiety and strategy is negativerelated. High-level subjects have different strategy choice from low-level subjects. Besides,an interview is as supplementary for this study. The results show that learners’ interest inreading need to be improved and reading strategies also need to be enhanced.Based on the above study and results, the author gives suggestions on reducing readinganxiety and enhancing the teaching and training of reading strategy. Firstly, teachers shouldhelp students to make correct attitude to reading anxiety and take various methods to reduce itfor comfortable affective reading environment of strategy use. Secondly, during readingteaching, teachers should permeate reading strategy teaching and training and guide learnersto set suitable reading plans and subjects and learn to self-manage and monitor themselves bymetacognitive strategies.This paper proposes suggestions on reducing reading anxiety and improving strategy usein order to help learners to enhance reading ability, at the same time for enriching relatedstudies. As to the experimental testing of these suggestions, it is also the part that needs to beimproved and studied in future researches.
