Students can realize their own advantages or disadvantages, i.e. learning style,which will help them to take the first step for their autonomous learning. This requiresteachers to identify and help students to recognize their own learning style. Everyteacher has his or her own learning style, which decides the teachers’ own teaching styleat the same time. This teaching style may match a part of the students’ learning style ormismatch the others’ in the class. According to training target and teaching tasks,teachers should flexibly adopt diversified teaching methods so as to meet the differentlearners’ different learning styles.In language communication, as the basic unit of language, vocabulary is importantto transmit the information in language learning, and it also can improve the students’language ability. Most scholars think vocabulary plays a core role in language learning.But in fact, it was found that it is not very ideal that students to learn the words. For theteacher always ignores to instruct the ways of learning vocabulary to students,vocabulary learning becomes a difficult problem to English learners.This thesis provides an overview of research achievements in learning styles athome and aboard, and studies the second grade students’ perceptual learning stylepreference distribution in Yanan experimental junior middle school. This paper is mainlybased on perceptual learning styles: An Empirical study. The aim of the study is toexplore the following questions:(1) weather the teachers uses the teaching methodwhich is based on the student’s learning style can help students to remember words?(2)In this paper, the subjects of perceptual learning style preference are how to spread? The present study employed quantitative and qualitative approaches. In the quantitative study,the questionnaire survey includes30items which is from Reid’s (1984) PerceptualLearning Style Preference Questionnaire. In this paper SPSS17.0was used to analyzethe quantitative data. The researcher uses descriptive statistics, conducts independentsample T-test to answer the two research questions. There were two vocabulary tests inthe qualitative study. Both tests included20words and used different teaching methodsto teach them. The study has proved several findings:(1) the students have differentlearning styles, and tactile most preferred.(2) teach the new words according to thestudent’s perceptual learning styles will prompt students’ retention.(3) in the teachingpractice, if the teachers can pay attention to the students’ learning styles, then thestudents will have more interest in learning. Teachers should encourage students tobetter develop their learning style, enrich their learning method. More important is thatthe teachers should coordinate their own teaching style and students’ learning style tomatch, help the students take the most suitable vocabulary learning strategy according totheir own learning style. The teacher should try their best to design varieties classroomactivities with different learning style. Using a variety of teaching methods in theclassroom, teachers display a variety of perceptual learning style information.
