Having a large English vocabulary is a prerequisite of mastering English. And enlarging vocabulary to some extent can help students learn English better. Senior high school students usually complain that English vocabulary is so hard for them to remember. On one hand, English vocabulary has the character of large size and lack of order, and on the other hand, most of the students lack application of metacognitive strategies in their learning process. They lack of planning for their study and self-monitor as well as regulation of their study. And lacking this kind of strategy application can lead to their difficulty in learning English vocabulary. Therefore, the writer thinks that it is very important to apply metacognitive strategies to senior high school students’vocabulary learning. And based on the current situation, the writer did the action research of the application of metacognitive strategies in senior high school students’English vocabulary learning which aims to help students solve the problem in their vocabulary learning and learn English vocabulary more effectively and help them form a good learning habit in the future learning process.The writer first set a questionnaire to get the knowledge of the current situation of students’vocabulary learning containing their difficulties in learning vocabulary as well as the strategies they use in their learning process. During the process of the research, the writer used the form of test paper and interview to follow their learning and learn about their application of vocabulary learning strategies. The writer would make regulation based on their performances and guide them make plans according to their specific characters. At last, the writer collected the data through the form of test and questionnaire and analyzed the result of the research. The information showed that metacognitive strategies to some extent can help students learn English vocabulary better and help them form good learning habits especially autonomic learning habit in long term.
