With the rapid development of the world and the improvement of the international comprehensive strength of China, the number of English learners in our country is growing rapidly these years. As a worldwide language, English has been paid more attention by teachers and the students themselves. In English teaching, how to teach English well and what kind of methods will be used to teach English in order to meet the needs of learners are also the questions that educationist and teachers often discuss. Communicative Approach is very popular among the teachers to meet the needs of learners in China now. English learning is not only needs the teaching of teachers, but also needs learners to learn actively and autonomously. The New English Curriculum Standard for High School states that to cultivate English learners’ autonomy is one of the most essential parts of the quality-oriented education. Learning autonomy is an ability to take charge of one’s own learning, it’s an ability that learners must have in the students-centered class. In traditional teaching process, the teacher is always the center of the class, which can not cultivate and enhance the students’learning autonomy. Therefore, the new teaching methods which take the students as the center of the class are more and more used in English teaching. Communicative Approach is a student-centered teaching method, whose purpose is to cultivate the learning interest and the ability to use English. It is of great help to cultivate students’learning autonomy. This essay aims to find out the influence of Communicative Approach on Senior High School students’ English learning autonomy.The author first presents the literature review of learning autonomy home and abroad by introducing the definitions, its characteristics and the factors that are related to it; and discusses the necessity of cultivating the learning autonomy, and then the author reviews the theories and applications of Communicative Approach home and abroad and also introduces some other teaching approaches. Based on this, an experimental research was implemented in Dawa Senior High School in Panjin. The aim of the research is to explore the influence of Communicative Approach on students’English learning autonomy. By using questionnaire, interview and test results comparison to analyze data and check the results, meanwhile, the author also discusses the factors related to the learning autonomy and the methods to cultivate it. The research shows that the student-centered Communicative Approach is helpful to cultivate students’ learning autonomy and the interest of English learning; as a result, it is helpful to improve their English learning achievement.
