An Analysis Of Errors In English Writing Of Senior High School Students And Its Implications

With the development of economy and science and technology, Englishbecomes more and more important in modern society. At the same time,English, as the main course in elementary education, plays an importancerole. Writing plays an important role in English teaching in senior highschool. Compared with reading, listening and speaking, writing isconsidered as the most difficult ability to master. In English teaching, it isinevitable f’or teachers to ifnd the errors in students writings.Based on the errors analysis theory, the purpose of the study is tosummarize the errors found in the students’ English writings, reduce theerrors in students’ writings and to improve their writing abilities. It alsogives some implications to English teaching and learning in senior highschool.The study takes the senior three students with the average level in ARongqi NO.l Middle School for example, and all of the subjects are invitedto write two articles with two different titles at two different stages. In total,there are six hundred compositions taken as examples in the study.Based on the previous studies and the auth’ors experience, the authorcorrects and analyzes the errors and classifies them into different categories.Atfer study, those errors can be classiifed into these categories, namely, substance errors, lexical errors, grammatical errors, and discourse errors andthen each lever of errors is subdivided.The causes of errors are different, including the inlfuence of mothertongue, the limitations of the vocabulary, the different culture backgroundknowledge, the applications of grammar rules, lack of practice and the timelimit and so on.Faced with these problems, this study presents some suggestions fort’eachers English teaching and students’ English learning. The author hopesthat it can be of great help for teachers and students in English learning.
