With the quality-oriented education strongly advocated, more and moreattention is paid to the students’ abilities such as listening, speaking, reading andwriting in foreign language teaching. Reading is the most frequent activity inlanguage use. It is also one of the most effective ways to improve students’ Englishproficiency. Therefore, reading is often given primary importance among priorities bymany English teachers. But in the whole process of senior high school Englishteaching, although teachers and students have spent a lot of efforts in reading, theeffect is not ideal. Therefore, it is very important to change the traditional readingteaching mode, in order to improve students reading comprehension.Since the1980’s,“task” is the word which has been used by many people inthe circle of linguistics. In2003, the government issued the "Average Senior HighSchool English Course Standard" advocated by the clear task-based language teachingmodel. Task-based language teaching uses the “task” as a pattern to build anenvironment which is good for learners’ language acquisition. But many teachers alsohave some faint understanding in teaching reading. In this situation, this thesis, startsfrom the theory of task-based teaching reading, combining with the teaching practice,gropes for the project how to use task-based teaching mode to applying in the Highschool English Reading teaching.This thesis summarizes the overseas and domestic research status fortask-based language teaching and the theory of the teaching reading; using thedesigned scheme of task-based teaching model to apply to the senior high schoolteaching English reading. According to the data statistics and analysis, testing thetask-based language teaching is useful for English teaching reading in senior highschool. Through the test, we can see clearly that the task-based language teaching ismore effective in optimizing the way of students’ studying, mobilizing the learninginterest, developing students’ studying by themselves, and training students’ teamspirit.
