With the installation of"New Curriculum Standards for High School English Course"all over China, it has become a necessity for high school English teachers to master anduse the Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) approach. The reasons are as follows:first,"New Curriculum Standards for High School English Course"promulgated by theMinistry of Education of China vigorously promotes the TBLT and regards it as a majorapproach to advance its primary and secondary school English teaching reform in China.Second, the current textbooks used by senior high school students in Inner MongoliaAutonomous Region are edited and published by the people's Education PublishingHouse. The main characteristics of this set of textbooks are that they use the topic ofevery unit as its core and structures and functional items as its clue to organize listening,speaking, reading and writing activities. In this way, teachers can achieve the teachingobjectives through "task-based" activities and the completion of the project.The teaching of English reading, especially in high schools is critical to both teachersand students. However, the current situations of reading of teaching in high schoolscannot meet the needs of economic and social development. There is a large gap betweenthe requirements of the new curriculum standards and teaching reality.The author made this empirical research into the teaching of high school Englishreading research using TBLT to test the hypothesis: the TBLT mode is more conducivethan the traditional mode of teaching to improving students'reading ability and languageintegrated functional capacity; compared with the traditional teaching model, the TBLTmode can help students develop more effective reading learning strategies. The aim is tostudy the feasibility and effectiveness of reading in high schools using TBLT and providesome enlightenment of theory and practice while helping students to master effectivereading methods to improve their overall language proficiency.The thesis is divided into six chapters. Chapter One introduces the research question,the purpose and significance of this research in a reading class in Chinese high schools.Chapter Two is devoted to the related theories of reading and the current situations ofreading in teaching in high schools in China. Chapter Three mainly discusses the related notions of task and TBLT, the theories and current situations of research into TBLT.Chapter Four attempts to discuss the actual implementation of TBLT in a reading class ina Chinese high school. Chapter Five mainly states the results and analyses of the research.Chapter Six is a short summary of this research.
