With the rapid development of scientific knowledge and the advent of new technologies, science-based dilemmas being presented to society, such as cloning, genetic screening, Genetically modified (gm) food and reproductive technologies. As the lack of scientific evidence or the diverse experience, background, values and morals, different people have the different attitudes and opinions with the same issues, even make totally different decisions. This generates social disputes. We refer to such issues as Socioscientific Issues(SSI). Relevant literature is surveyed to build the case that socioscientific issues (SSI) have the potential to serve as effective contexts for understanding the nature of science(NOS) and scientific literacy. It’s a better means of the construction of scientific knowledge, informal reasoning, values and moral judgments. Biology becomes the best contexts for SSI teaching and learning science content just because of its closely contacting with daily life.Based on the lack of research in this field in our country, and the short of analysis on the teaching and learning science course book at home and abroad, the author carried out the basic tool for integrated science curriculum-science teaching textbook as the research object, chosen 《Scientific Explorer》 and 《Science Focus》 which had the most characteristic in SSI writing from10countries and compared them with the biological part in Science course books from Wuhan and Zhejiang. Firstly, we expounded the concept of SSI and informal reasoning, sorted out the relevant literature in detail, including the classification of the SSI, pedagogical model and strategies etc. In the second chapter, around the four sets of textbooks from China, the United States and Australia, a comparison between their corresponding curriculum standard occurred, including the overall goal, the emphasis of the curriculum standard for science, technology and society, as well as related provisions concerning the SSI. And then, we analysed the quantity, column setting up, classification and presentation in the four sets of books. Finally, taking the Science Textbook in Wuhan edition for example, we embedded the SSI from 《Scientific Explorer》 and 《Science Focus》 into it based on the knowledge system, giving some writing and teaching proposals. We sincerely hope that this study can make some write recommendations for the science textbook writer, and provide a few source and reference for the front-line teachers to carry out the SSI teaching.
