The Perspective Of Social Change In Marriage Bride Price

Bride price as an essential part of the wedding program began to exist in the form of a national law in China from the Western Zhou Dynasty。In the People’s Republic of China, bride price was to be banned on the level of national law, but it can be passed on to folk spread。Since the reform and opening up, Chinese society has undergone great changes in the political, economic, cultural and other aspects. Bride price as a social phenomenon also changed. In this paper, I take the bride price changes in the rural area as a clue, and make a survey in A village of Zhao Yang District of Yunnan Province to analyze many factors that affect the A village bride price. I make the survey in the perspective of social change which go around the change and feature of the bride price.In this paper, I investigate and analyze village bride price on the basis of literature, questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaire is mainly about the attitude to the bride price of people who are in different ages, from different cultural level, through which I can get reasons for the existence of bride price. I make investigation to analyze the bride price about the content, form, amount of the bride price paid by the different ages, and about whether the bride price makes a woman in the nature of a dominant position. I selected the typical and representative interviewers for the questionnaire and made a multi-angle analysis on the relationship between the rural marriage bride price change and social change, changes in family structures, community sense and national policy.The paper is divided into three parts. The first part is an introduction, including the reason of this topic and the core concepts definition on the basis of previous studies and literature. In this part, I take social change as the perspective and then propose the research methods and assumptions. A village is selected as the survey sample, and the basic situation of A village is described as well as I can. The second part is about the sample analysis which is to describe the bride price changes. According to the different attitudes of the interviews towards bride price payment, the marriage bride price exchange process is divided into four types and the bride price change has some characteristics. The third part is about the analysis of the factors of bride price change mainly from the macro level and meso level and micro level. The bride price change is closely linked with the change of the national policy, economic development, customs, family structure, personal career, cultural level, and the change of the way of love. A village bride price change is the result of the interaction of the macr level and meso level and micro level factors.
