As we all know, spoken English teaching is an important part in English learning. However, influenced by the guidance of the college entrance examination, most middle school teachers focus more on equipping their students with English knowledge, neglecting language practice.Thus, students tend to spend most of their time in reading and writing, but they do little practice in listening and speaking. As a result, most senior high school students cannot communicate with others in English though they have been learning English for about six years."Dumb English" is one of the problems which puzzles most of the English teachers in middle school. That’s why it is difficult to carry out "quality-oriented" education system in English teaching.This thesis focuses on the study of the relationship between cooperative learning and achievement in spoken English teaching.The experiment in the paper shows the students’ improvement in spoken English after the teacher carries out the method of cooperative learning in teaching spoken English.The purpose of the research is to seek an effective way to help senior high school students to improve their spoken English and enable them to use English well. In the experiment, the teaching plan puts emphasis on the process of speaking English in routine teaching activities, which helps the students to realize the significance of more practice.The aim is to guide the students to form a good habit of speaking English bravely and practicing more with their partners in English so that they will gradually learn to communicate with others frequently.
