In quest for peak performance, athletes have traditionally engaged in performance skillstraining as the primary intervention strategy for enhancing athletic performance. However, mindfulness and acceptance-based strategies have been gaining development, particularlybecoming the subject of further investigation in sport psychology. It is a new paradigm forenhancing athletic performance. The Mindfulness-Acceptance-Commitment (MAC) approachfor performance enhancement is a seven-week protocol that works to enhance athletes’nonjudgmental awareness, cultivates experiential acceptance, and improves task-focusedattention so that athletes learn they can reach peak performance despite negative internalstates.Based on MAC approach, Chinese culture elements were added into this study, likeenlightenment and decentering, etc. This study used ABBA multiple-baseline single-casedesign to examine the effect of intervention on the3Free Combating athletes whoparticipated in this intervention in enhancing their mindfulness and acceptance levels, andalso performance. The Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire and The Acceptance and ActionQuestionnaire are used for evaluation. Experimental data showed that athletes all enhancedtheir mindfulness and so did the dimension of observation、nonjudgement and nonreaction, while there was not significant differences in the dimension of describe and act withawareness, and they all improved their acceptance. The semi-structured interviews andself-evaluation from athletes and The Observation Form from coach also confirmed the effectof intervention. And the competition results actually reflected the enhancement of athletes’performance. The results of intervention confirmed the hypothesis in this study.
