This research focuses on the correlation analysis of tolerance of ambiguity and the task performance on rational cloze test for senior high school students. The study is based on the following theories:cognitive dissonance, need for cognitive closure and cultural frame switch。Drawing on the latest researches concerning tolerance of ambiguity at home and aboard, the present study investigates90senior high school students and analyzes the data collected from tolerance of ambiguity test and rational cloze test as well.According to the experiment, we find out that the students with tolerance of ambiguity performed better in rational cloze test, compared to students of intolerance of ambiguity. The possible explanation of this experiment may be that the students with high tolerance of ambiguity do well in controlling emotional anxiety and have low need for cognitive closure and they are more willing to acquire western culture. The pedagogical implications of the research are that English teachers should pay more attention to teaching students’ emotion regulation strategies and cultivating students divergent thinking abilities and English thinking abilities.
