Study On The Social Responsibility Of Local Colleges And Universities In China

There are a considerable number of local colleges and universities in China and they play a vital role in higher education system. They not only make a great contribution to the popularization of higher education, but also have a responsibility for the development of social economy, especially local social economy. To achieve better and further development, local colleges and universities must undertake their social responsibilities actively and bravely. We have witnessed the achievements they have made in assuming their responsibilities by walking out of the ivory tower and integrating into the society. On the other hand, many problems arise in their practice of fulfilling social responsibilities, such as lacking of consciousness of social responsibility and contact with all walks of life.From the perspectives of political theory of higher education, stakeholder theory, center theory of higher education, the paper looks into the relationship between local colleges and universities and the regional social development by integrating literature method, comparative education method, case study method and theoretical speculation method. The paper also aims to demonstrate how local colleges and universities establish new ties and achieve coordinated development and win-win with regional social and economic development, local governments, enterprises and institutions as well as other colleges and universities in the process of fulfilling their social responsibility. Local governments have the responsibility to promote the development of local colleges and universities, while local colleges and universities should be the local government’s think tank. In new era, local colleges and universities are facing new development opportunities, local universities and the development of local society、economy and culture are closely linked.
