Folklore is a collectively created, inherited and enjoyed living culture whichcomes from the long-term production and life practice of the people of all ethnicgroups. The folklore of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC) isthe same, for it is a kind of living culture rooted in the life of various nationalities ofreclamation people and corps’ workers, who is obliged to fulfill the "settlementdefend edge" of our country as a soldier, also a farmer.This paper is on the basis of comprehensive study, understanding and reviews ofthe research background, significance and related researches both at home and abroad,describing and analyzing the folk culture’s ecology environment of the corps. Then itshows the corps formation and changes of folk life are mainly by the naturalgeographical environment, the influence of the social and historical backgrounds andthe composition of the folk custom owners. On the base of comprehensive utilizingtwo perspectives of Folklore studies—cultural items and entire life, the paper takingthe eighth division of XPCC and the city of Shi He Zi as an example to summarizeand analyze the early and the today’s folk life of the XPCC from the materialproduction and living customs, the life rites and the festivals and customs, the authoralso has carried on a theoretical thinking of the overall development situation of thecorps’ folk custom life: the folk custom owners are from "troops" to "soldiers, alsofamers", the folklore phenomena is from "single" to "complicated", the folk customsituation from "military mode" to "town mode" and the folk life from "multi-cultures"to "Multi-cultural unity". The final chapter uses the theory of ethnology to analyzeand discuss the influence of the folk life of XPCC effects on ethnic relations frommart interaction, festival interaction and language communication. It suggests that thefolk life and the national relationship of the corps are inseparable and complementaryto each other. The more frequently and in-depth the national communications in folklife are built, the more harmonious the ethnic relations are formed. And theseharmonious ethnic relations will further promote the interaction and blend of folk life.It also has important theoretical significance and practical value to strengthen thetheory of culture-frontiers to guide practice and promote cultural consciousness,cultural self-confidence and self-improvement of XPCC.The dissertation applies the knowledge of folklore and ethnology, combines fieldsurvey and documentary analysis. It aims to give a comprehensive and objectivedescription of the XPCC folklore and its change trend and explores the ethnicrelations in the XPCC folk life according to survey and individual interview deep intothe eighth division and the city of Shi He Zi, which includes the places of Shi He Zi city, Shi He Zi town, the133rd Regiment and the143rd Regiment. This dissertationhopes to offer a new case as well as a new perspective in the field of folklore andethnology study, and provides a new path of harmonious ethnic relations which enrichand extend the contents and scopes of the ethnic relation research in China. Apartfrom that, the research provides the theory references for grasping the change rule ofthe XPCC folk life and further promotes the harmonious ethnic relations andharmonious society construction in the XPCC, Xinjiang province.
