The environmental justice movement grow up in the end of70s and early80s of the20th century in U.S.. Before it, the American women made a positive contribution toenvironmental justice, but these actions mostly are involuntary for the people’s welfareand are related to environmental justice, and therefore there is not widely attention. Suchas famous chairman of the first American Red Cross Clara Barton had resigned towelfare for GI. Until the50s and60s of20th century, Along with the rising of themodern civil rights movement and the feminist movement and development, the ideas ofthe American women become open, They began to increasingly focus on environmentalinjustice problem. At the end of the70s, Under the influence of Lois Gibbs, a successfulleadership of love canal action against toxic waste, American women began to struggle apositive commitment to environmental justice movement.This article mainly divides into three parts which are introduction, text andconclusion. The introduction defines the related concepts, and describes the domestic andoverseas research dynamic, the innovation of this paper, the main structure, and thesignificance of topics. The main text consists of three parts. The text is divided into threeparts. The first part mainly illustrates the social background and ideological backgroundof American women to participate in the environmental justice movement. Socialbackground including black civil rights movement, the feminist movement and the risingand development of environmentalism, from strategies to the organization, thesemovements laid the foundation for American women to participate in the environmentaljustice movement; the rise of Eco-feminism has contributed to American women activelyparticipate in the environmental justice career and provides the powerful thought weapon.The text in the second part mainly according to the historical sequence and spatialexpansion mode combing the process of the American women to participate in theenvironmental justice movement, Since the80s and90s American women casesinvolved in the environmental justice movement is much and complicated, so the authoronly selected a few typical and representative of the event as a content. The third partmainly discusses the American women’s status and role in the environmental justicemovement. The author thinks that the American women in the environmental justice movement status is in the process of changing. Here the author analyses the cause thatthe American women has the special status in the environmental justice movement:motherhood and female discontent about both the social structure, also analyses the roleof American women in the80s~90s environmental justice movement: Women toparticipate in the environmental justice movement to promote the development of themovement itself; Also puts forward a new content for environmental justice movement:make efforts to eliminate gender discrimination effects on environmental justice;American women to participate in the environmental justice movement inject a vitalityfor the modern environmental movement in the80s which lost in silence.
