The population problem is the primary problem to solve the problem of PRED. it is ought to study population spatial distribution problem for solving population problem in different regions and different scales, especially the spatial distribution of population density, so as to effectively realize the optimization of the relation between population, resources and environment and achieve sustainable development. Since the middle of the last century, it appeared a series of environmental problems in ShiYang River Basin, water resources shortage, land desertification, frequent dust weather and so on due to the massive agricultural development and unreasonable utilization for a long time. Especially the Min Qin oasis, vegetation degradation, oasis atrophy, groundwater table falling sharply, these problems lead to local ecological environment deteriorated, seriously influence the sustainable development of population resources and environment, and it caused national leaders attached great importance to. However, Northwest Inland River Basin, represented by the ShiYang River, more than covered the vast desert and Gobi, but the population was concentrated near the oasis and traffic along, so there are a series of shortcomings and deficiencies for traditional population density study which administrative region as the statistical unit, and population data spatialization or population data gridding is an effective means to solve these problems. Therefore, it is it is contribute to reveal the true character of the basin population distribution to explore the population density of space research on watershed scale. And make rational regional policy and management programs on this basis, accordingly to provide a scientific basis for the sustainable development of population, resources and environment.Summarizing the population density spatialization research status at home and abroad, This paper analyzes the population distribution characteristics from2000-2010in the Shiyang River Basin by using Quarterback method, Population distribution structure index, Population distribution center of gravity, population offset growth and Spatial autocorrelation analysis method. Then it determines the grid network scale size which can reflect watershed true population density characteristics in accordance with the the grid scale effect on the global and local spatial autocorrelation. And finally, it selects the most appropriate size of the grid scales layers, and analyses watershed population density distribution pattern using Auto-correlation area density equation, and on this basis, makes practice analysis under appropriate grid scale. The results show that,①population density spatial distribution are quite different and relatively concentrated in Shi Yang River Basin, it presents point-line-area of spatial structure with3points4lines3areas and composes of Southwest-northeast-trending and T-shaped population density high value area.②Population distribution overall assumes the central tendency, the center of gravity is located in Da Liu County in Liang Zhou district in10years, population migration gap is bigger on all levels of statistical units. The indexes are leaning to Wu Wei city and GuLang town concentrated trend, but population movement in Min Qin oasis area is relatively stable.③There is a significant positive spatial autocorrelation for population density of space in Shi Yang River Basin. The grid scale effect of spatial autocorrelation effects showed a certain stage, but8000to10000m is optimal scaling range of performance basin population density distribution Auto-correlation.④Space self-relevant parameters of single-center model can completely describe the pattern and characteristics of population density spatial distribution and spatial effects can significantly reduced the mutagenic effect between the administrative units.
