Since the19th century, General education which is regarded as the personnel training mode of American Research Universities, is emulated by countries all over the world because of cultivating many great elites successfully. General Education is not only structured by a series of courses in different areas, but also makes students use multidisciplinary way of thinking,research method, horizons of the discipline, analysis, criticize and solve various problems in reasonable and logical way, and liberal arts penetration, value formation in the learning process. But in our country, the idea, system and courses of quality education are not implemented well, we just regard quality education as elective courses, lack of total factor penetration and full participation of quality education in talents training."There are always other hills whose stones are good for working jade", how to draw lessons from the successful experiences of General Education, and correctly understand and practice quality education is a problem we must face in the future.In view of General Education which plays an important role in the process of talent cultivating, the author try to explore the relationship between General Education and talent cultivation, and base on the following aspects:what kind of culture does American Research Universities’General Education courses build, what kind of effect does it work to students, which aspects does culture of General Education make on the cultivation of talents, the reason for the unsuccess of the quality education in our country, and how can quality education in our country learn from the successful experience of General Education of American universities. Through research, the author found that in the design of core curriculum of General Education, humanities courses builds the atmosphere of freedom diversity, social science curriculum shapes civic culture of democratic and critical, scientific and technical course leads the spirit pursuit of rational of perfection. Therefore, as for the influence of university culture cultivated by General Education on students, human science knowledge makes students’ attention from local to overall, grasp the integrity and root-searching of knowledge. Learning natural science knowledge makes student realize that science activity which as a process of seeking reality, knowledge, truth, is about the exploration of the unknown world, not for any utilitarian purposes, and in pursuit of innovation continually.In terms of social scientific knowledge learning, General Education is focused on the soul communication between people, it teaches people to respect the nature, makes harmonious relation between man and society to be better build. All in all, no matter in knowledge, ability or emotion, General education does good to students’ growth, so taking quality education into the whole process of talent cultivation system is a necessary to improve personnel training quality of university.
