As an international language, English plays more and more important role in society. English writing, as one of the integrated skills of English, also occupies an important position in English teaching. However, in the traditional process of teaching of writing, the majority of teachers directly assign the writing topics to students. Because there is no specific guidance method, so that the English writing is in a blind status, students tend to spend a lot of time but have little effect. In order to make the writing more effective, the author explores the specific application of Scaffold Theory in the field of teaching. The theory was originated from the studies of Vygotsky, who created the ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development). This thesis aims to explore how Scaffold Instruction fosters their interest in learning English writing, encourages them to develop the habit of thinking independently and exploring actively, develops their creative consciousness, as well as improves their comprehensive skills to use English. Scaffold Instruction divides the learning process into five steps:setting up scaffolds, situational teaching, independent exploration, cooperative learning and effect assessment. In March,2012, the author began an experiment lasting16weeks among100subjects. The investigative results and the experimental data were collected and analyzed. This exploratory research shows that Scaffold Instruction enables students to initiate their interest in learning English and develop their language skills. It increases students’learning efficiency as well as fully explores their potential. With the guidance of this teaching method, students get into the habit of thinking independently and exploring actively in a free and relaxing environment. The analysis also shows that students give positive feedback to this teaching method. But influenced by limited knowledge of the author and other aspects, there are still some shortcomings in the study, so the limitation and implication for the future study are also mentioned in the last chapter.
