English vocabulary is a vital component of English learning which provides thebase for English listening, speaking, reading and writing. However, the currentEnglish vocabulary teaching of high school students in China is not satisfying. Formost high school students, vocabulary learning is always a negative rememberingprocess. Students not only can not grasp words, but also lose learning interest andmotivation. In view of the existing situation, it is so necessary and significant to adoptsome scientific and efficient vocabulary teaching strategies.This thesis explores the effectiveness of associative learning strategies forEnglish vocabulary learning. The author chose a controlled class and an experimentalclass. Each class has50subjects. A training on associative strategies was given toexperimental class. After the training of three months, the author used questionnaires,tests and an interview to recorded learning results between two classes.The findings of this research indicate that associative strategies are scientific andeffective for senior two students, which enhance learners’ ability of vocabularylearning. The associative learning strategies help learners link their existingknowledge with their present learning. This association has much positive influenceon English vocabulary learning process. At the same time, associative strategiesprovide more efficient learning methods and arouse learners’ interest in vocabularylearning.
