Textbooks, as both teachers’ teaching and students’ learning tools and resources, are foundations to achieve educational effects and teaching objectives. In December2011, the Ministry of Education issued the Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards to further revise and improve the English Curriculum Standards (experimental draft). Compulsory Education Textbook English (Yilin Press edition) for Grade7is revised under the guidance of2011edition of new curriculum standard and authorized by Ministry of Education.This thesis focuses on Compulsory Education Textbook English (Yilin Press edition) and makes an analysis and evaluation of the textbooks by gathering information from the textbooks themselves and dynamic opinions from its users in practice. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, the thesis evaluates the textbooks and comments on how well the textbooks of Grade7agree with the notions of CEECS(2011) and the law of language learning and teaching. Some suggestions of revising and using textbooks for textbook editors and users are proposed.The thesis proposes two questions:How well does English(Yilin edition) meet the Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards (2011)? What are the advantages and disadvantages of English(Yilin edition)? The data of the thesis was collected from textbooks, questionnaires. The findings are as follows:1. Compulsory Education Textbook English generally meets the requirements put forward by the Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards (2011).2. Compared with its old version, the present textbook gives more attention to the development of students’ comprehensive language using ability and the arrangement of language knowledge is more reasonable.3. The topics are more abundant and conform to the students’ daily life better.4. However, two units are added to each unit volume making the students’ bear more.5. The difficulty and capacity of volume two increase unexpectedly, which is harmful to keeping the students’ interests and enthusiasm;6. Some topics are too difficult for students to study.On the basis the analysis, the author makes some suggestions about how to change the philosophy of teaching, how to make full use of the textbooks for the teachers’ reference. Providing some advice for compilers of textbooks on how to compile improve the textbook.
