Through the gradually changing standard of English curriculum, it is clear to see that China attempts to adapt for the tendency of globalization. Under this circumstance, the intercultural communicative competence (ICC) becomes more and more important in English learning. So the author conducts a research for both students and teachers in a senior high school in Qingdao to figure out their current situation of intercultural communication.The thesis mainly aims at solving the following questions:1. What is the real state of students’ ICC in senior high school?2. What are the teachers’ attitudes and understanding of intercultural communication in English teaching?3. What measures can we take to improve students’ ICC?As for these questions, the author employs test, questionnaire and interview as the instrument for the survey. After the research, the author found out that some students are quite deficiency on ICC. And some teachers also pay less attention to intercultural communicative teaching. The causes for students lacking of ICC are concluded as follows:1. ethnocentrism and prejudice2. stereotype3. negative language transfer of mother tongue4. monoculturalism5. teachers’ lacking of cultural teaching in class.In order to solve these problems, the author put forward some suggestions for both students and teachers, hoping to improve students’ ICC. Besides, the author would also like to make a contribution to empirical studies on intercultural communicative competence.
