Modernity is something growing up in the western background. In the paper we identifymodernity as manifestation of consciousness and the ability of self-selection. Instrumentalration and value ration are associated in the early period of modernity, but the decline of valueration makes modernity to find new ways to prove itself. Construction of "the other" is oneway to prove the value and prominence of modernity. The life experience and knowledgeform of "the other" were examined in the view of modernity and found they were inferior tothe modern life. This paper focuses on the identity of shamanism converting from "superstition" to"national culture", and we hope to display the different way of how modernity constructs theother. Shamanism was viewed as "superstition", which means modernity "constructs" theopposing other and earn its own meaning, while it was regarded as "natural culture", whichmeans modernity "reconstructed" the other in the modern logic."Construction" to"reconstruction" represents the different relationship of modernity with the other. So, an idea occurs to our mind, we are wondering what happened from the"construction" to "reconstruction"? First, the new world relationship converts from warspattern to culture pattern, which means the focus point in the world is translating to "nationalculture". Second, meeting the need of national identity. China built its country through thecompletely breaking up with the history and tradition and based on Marxism. So, its naturalfor the new country to construct its culture environment to accommodate different ethicalculture. The activity of "national culture" protection supported the legitimacy of politicalcountry. Third, launching of the protection project of intangible cultural heritage provides aplan to practice. This activity unifies multiple culture in a system way, and protect thetraditional culture in modern force. Thus, shamanism acquire a survival space under the effects of three different factors. What we should notice is that through the reconstruction of modernity, shamanismrepresented itself in a form of "new developed" tradition.
