Over the years, the traditional way of teaching mathematics has attached great importance to rigiddeductive reasoning while overlooked the importance of plausible reasoning. However, in recent years,“developing their plausible reasoning ability” was written into Mathematics Curricular Criterion, anincreasing demand for plausible reasoning seemed to reduce the demand for deductive reasoning, capabilitytrain thus would go from from one extreme to the other. Therefore how to strike the balance betweenplausible reasoning and deductive reasoning, racing together bridle to bridle, has become a starting point ofthis paper. In the first place, the author has referred to a variety of bibliographies under the subject of mathematicalreasoning so as to provide clear definitions of related concept and a profound theory foundation.Furthermore, standing on the very front of teaching practice, the author tried to have a better understandingof the current situation of students’ mathematical reasoning ability by carrying on a questionnaireinvestigation among the senior high school students in grade two, and offer pieces of advice on how toculture and enhance students’ mathematical reasoning ability according to teaching experiment and casestudy.Analysis of the questionnaires found that, in this grade,(1) the students of science are more good atmathematical reasoning than the students of art;(2) overall, the boy students excelled the girl students inmathematical reasoning;(3) the students’ plausible reasoning ability are substantially better than theirdeductive reasoning capability;(4) the students showed a general weaker sense in plane geometry, analyticgeometry, and space geometry. It is concluded that teachers should:(1) return to the basics, emphasize essence, joint continued tail, preferth jouney to the destination;(2) avoid over-teaching, let students recreation in the reasoning activities;(3)creat favorable situation, provoke students’ emotion of success;(4) stand on ordinary state, makedeveloping mathematical reasoning ability advance to developing mathematical thinking ability.
