A Study On The Application Of Task-based Approach To English Reading Teaching In Senior High School

Reading comprehension plays an important role in Senior High School Englishteaching. What’s more, the English Syllabus considers improving students’ readingcomprehension ability as a priority in English teaching. The author finds out thatreading teaching is the weak point in high school language teaching. Most of theteachers adopt the traditional English teaching method, explaining the key words andimportant phrases in the text, asking students to take notes and to memorize them.However, the Task-Based Approach (TBA) focuses on “Learning by doing”, in whichstudents actively take part in classroom activities and complete language learningtasks through self-learning and team work, so as to arouse students’ interest inlearning English.This thesis introduces the present situation of researches on TBA and reading inChina and at abroad, discusses the theories of TBA and reading, summarizes themodels of TBA, and also describes how to put the TBA model into senior high schoolEnglish reading teaching in detail. The author chooses two liberal arts classes inGrade Two in Hebei Pingshan Shiyan Middle School as subjects, one of whichadopted traditional teaching method PPP (Presentation, Practice, Production), whilethe other of which adopted TBA in reading teaching in class. This period lasted sixmonths from September2013to the end of the semester. In the experiment,questionnaires were distributed. After analyzing the experimental results, the authorfinds that compared to students in control class, students in the experimental class canuse reading skills and strategies better and their reading ability and learning interestshave been greatly improved.
