There are a lot of works about the second language acquisition. Some of them are about the research of the acquisition process. Some of them are about the research of the acquisition environment. Some are related to the research of acquisition results and some are related to the research of second language teaching. This thesis focuses on how the differences between Chinese sentence patterns and English sentence patterns influence English learning. The research is based on the test papers, homework and a specific questionnaire for about567students from Grade7to Grade12. The thesis uses the theories of error analysis, contrastive analysis and interlanguage theory. It contrasts five main sentence patters. They are the statement, the negative, the wh-questions, the tag questions and the attributive clauses. This thesis also analyze the common sentence pattern errors and what causes these errors, which includes interlingual transfer, intralingual transfer, like over generalization, ignorance of rule restrictions and false concepts hypothesized. Meanwhile, the factors of sexual and age also influence the leaning of English sentence patterns. In the last chapter of this thesis, some teaching strategies are put forward to decrease the errors.
