Deng Xiaopeng once said that education should be geared to the needs of themodernization, the world and the future. The initial application of the new mediacarriers such as WeChat has greatly changed undergraduates’ internet social life,resulting that the current ideological and political education should comply with thecurrent development and pay full attention to the studies on various issues under thebackground of the advancement of high technology. As a result, how to guide studentsto use WeChat correctly to take advantages and avoid disadvantages has become acritical task of us ideological and political educators, and it will have vital practicalsignificance on further enhancing and improving the ideological and politicaleducation of current university students to analyze their habits and regular patterns ofusing WeChat, to study the impact of WeChat on their daily life, and to explore thechallenges it takes on ideological and political education and the solutions towardsthose challenges.The key points of this paper on the researches about the challenges WeChatbrings and the countermeasures of ideological and political education are: firstly,WeChat has significantly changed students’ learning, life styles, thoughts and moralconcepts, and thus brought stern challenges to the ideological and political educationof undergraduates. Secondly, in the background of WeChat, we ideological andpolitical educators have to adjust work thinking, take advantages and avoiddisadvantages, further enrich the meaning of ideological and political education, givefull play to WeChat in the ideological and political education, and enhance theattraction and appeal of this education process. In the course of this research, theauthor of this essay intends to analyze the problems, solve the problems, and finallyexplore the new working style of the ideological and political education in thebackground of WeChat, applying the working experience as an educator and thetheories learned in graduate programs, with the help of the reports which investigatesthe usage of WeChat in Jilin University, to deal from the challenges WeChat brings tothe ideological and political education, and to work from the studies of using WeChat to perfect ideological and political education.In accordance with this reasoning line, in order to make prudent analysis andcomprehensive research on the challenges WeChat brings and the solutions of thosechallenges, this essay is divided into5chapters.Chapter1: Introduction, which states the study background, significance,research methods, reasoning line, innovations and possible drawbacks of this essay,using documentary analysis which summarize the related articles including those oninternet and new media ideological and political education, those on communicationstudies about WeChat, and those on WeChat application in ideological and politicaleducation, and thus states the reasoning lines and key points of those articles so as toconfirm the research ideas and essay structure.Chapter2: Overview of WeChat, which introduces the content and functions ofWeChat, analyzes the development trend of WeChat from the perspective of its datagrowth, studies its characteristics, and offers grounds to the following parts aboutquestionnaire analysis, WeChat challenges, and the solutions to the problems.Chapter3, the Influence of WeChat on Undergraduates, in which questionnaireanalysis is applied and based on the questionnaires research about the usage ofWeChat of Jilin University students, so as to further discuss the research objective andto study the impacts of WeChat on undergraduates.Chapter4, the Challenges WeChat Brings to the Undergraduate Ideological andPolitical Education, which focus on the research of the challenges from theperspectives of public sentiment, of correct cultivation of ideology, of educationalphilosophies, and of the quality of ideological and political educators.Chapter5, the Study of Countermeasures to Apply Undergraduate Ideologicaland Political Education Taking Advantage of WeChat, in which case studies andexperience summaries are applied, summarizing the successful experience of onlineideological and political education in Jilin University, and studying from the view ofhow to enhance educational guide, to improve ideological and political educationteam working, to construct related supporting systems, and to perfect managing andmonitoring systems.
