Washback is the influence of testing on teaching and learning. The positive washback improve teaching and learning while the negative washback hinder the learning and teaching. According to the Reform and Adjustment Scheme of College Entrance Examination (Guangdong), the NMET (Guangdong) has been divided into the written test and listening and speaking test from2011. The listening and speaking test, which called Computer-based English Listening and Speaking Test (CELST) in full, account for10%of the total scores in NMET. As a significant examination in China, the NMET has great effects on teaching and learning. However, the study of washback effect of NMET is not many, and the washback effect of listening and speaking test on NMET is rare.This research, on basis of the studies of washback both from home and abroad, explore the washback effect of the CELST in NMET (Guangdong) on listening and speaking teaching and learning. The purpose of the research is to find out the positive and negative washback and then to make some implications for teaching and learning. The research is an empirical study combined by quality study and quantity study with the instrument of questionnaire and interview. Three questions are asked.1) What are teachers’and students’perceptions of the CELST of NMET (Guangdong)?2) What are the washback effects of CELST on teaching and learning?3) How to promote the positive washback effect and decrease the negative ones? The participants in the research are207students and50teachers in senior high school. The author studies the washback on teaching from6dimensions and washback on learning from5dimensions.The main findings are:1) both teachers and students take positive attitudes towards the CELST;2) the CELST has washback effects on teaching purpose, teaching activities, teaching materials, learning motivation, learning method and learning consequences, but the washback on teaching method is subtle;3)we can promote positive washback effects and negative ones by making sure the test validity, by ensuring the test are known and understood by teachers and students, by adjusting teachers’ teaching purpose and students’learning motivation and by providing teachers’training opportunities.Based on the findings, the author makes some implications for teachers and students.
