No matter in which stage of students learning English, junior or senior, learning words is sometimes concerned as a boring, dull and mechanic process as for students. Moreover, students always complain that learning English vocabulary taking up them a lot of time but with little progress and results. Not also students, but teachers are puzzled in how to teach vocabulary effectively. Accordingly, this atmosphere can have devastating affects on students’leaning interests and confidence. In addition, not so many researches or studies have been conducted on the vocabulary teaching and learning.The purpose of this study is to seek to explore an appropriate and effective vocabulary teaching model:cooperative learning, which is based on the ZDP and Scaffolding teaching theory, in senior high school in China.In the study, the author makes full use of questionnaire, vocabulary tests to get some key information in students vocabulary learning situation before and after the experiment. Cooperative learning, the group learning in vocabulary teaching and learning can arouse students’learning initiative and interest, improve their learning performance, activate the class learning atmosphere and develop their learning ability in vocabulary learning. During the teaching experiment, the author utilizes the SPSS to analyze the data to make the conclusions:first, the cooperative learning can motivate learners’motivation; second, the classroom atmosphere can be activated; third, the roles of the teacher has been changed in the cooperative learning class; fourth, during the cooperative learning, it improves students’social skills, especially the relationship between classmates; last, it develops students’ability in learning vocabulary after class as well.To sum up, as long as researchers explore effective and suitable teaching method on vocabulary teaching and learning, it will be definite for students to learn vocabulary much better and better.
