With the development of technology, pursuing of material lives are not the ultimate goals any more, the citizens would fulfill their spiritual lives in taking part in all kinds of activities such as travelling to be a way of pastime. Traditional tourism management has being unable to meet the demand for tourism, while the information network application in modern society increasing popularly, as one of the most important elements people cannot live without.In this this paper, the author solved several current problems in the modern tourism industry and designed an information system for city guide and tourist vehicle of Chengde, with the help of related software and some network information. The system consists of the application of GIS technology involves the disciplines as computer graphics, digital image processing, GPS, database management and the system task is the data input, output, storage, and display. GIS has powerful spatial analysis capabilities as well as the accessible expression, which provides technical support for the tourism industry, also solves the problems that existing in the tourism industry.This paper describes the status of the developing tourism in Chengde, including some advantages and problems and proposed several suggestions according to the development of domestic and international tourism development. In the following chapters, the system is analyzed in the aspects of the needs of tourists, the system’s functionality, technical means, feasibility and others. On this background, the author gives the structure of the system design involving the database. During the detailed functional design part, the author even gives a few typical design processes. The system achieved several function such as buffer analysis, distance measurement, the shortest path selection, queries, and other basic map operating functions.The paper achieved a system on the basis of GIS, providing a comprehensive and accurate service information, furthermore, it supplies some support for an efficient management and wise decision-making.
