As one of the key technologies in future wireless communication area, multipleinput multiple output (MIMO) technology significantly improves the link reliabilityand spectrum efficient (SE) of the system. And radio resource management (RRM)plays a critical role in the design of wireless communication systems, and proper RRMmechanism can effectively increase the SE while users’ Quality of Service (QoS) areguaranteed. The main optimization target of traditional celluar systems is to maximize the cellcoverage and channel capacity, which may cause resource waste and environmentalpollution. Nowadays, the research of green radio communication mainly focus onenergy saving and emission reduction, environmental protection and sustainability. This thesis works around the new research area of green communication. It firstintroduces the relevant background and foundation, and then demonstrates the researchof two areas, energy efficient (EE) based multiple antenna signal design and RRM,respectively. In chapter one, we first present the main problems in traditional wirelesscommunication systems. And the existing research results and directions of greencommunication are summarized. At last, we introduce the organization of this thesis. In chapter two, the theory foundation of green communication is introduced. Asenergy effciency has no uniform definition in academia yet, we first summarize somecommon definitions and determine the one utilized in this thesis. Then the basiccontradiction of green radio is analysed, which is the trade-off relation between EE andSE. And the traditional power models are presented in the end.In chapter three, we research on the energy efficient based multiple antenna signaldesign. Firstly, we derive the energy efficency expression of four conventional MIMOtransmit technologies, and compare their EE performance in different scenarios. Thesimulation results show that spatial modulation (SM) is a high EE transmit mode, andalso provide reference for MIMO mode selection and link adaptive criterion. Then we construct the optimization model based on energy efficent and discuss thediversity-multiplexing trade-off scheme. In view of the results, EE can be improved byadaptively adjusting the diversity and multiplexing order, also EE raises with theincreasing of the number of receive antennas. In chapter four, we research on the energy efficient based RRM. For orthogonalfrequency division multiple access (OFDMA) system, we discuss the subcarrier andpower allocation strategy, and propose a low complexity RRM algorithm. Then wecompare the new algorithm with the traditional one under the Matlab simulationcircumstance, where the proposed one has less than3%performance loss, whereaseffectively reduces the total number of waterfilling from O NK to O N.Chapter five concludes the thesis and indicates the further researchdirections.
