Along with human progress and the speedy evolution of information and science technique, information and knowledge has become the strategic resources and the basic elements of social and economic progress. Wireless communications with wide bandwidth are highly designed. Equipments for wireless communications are designed with the goals of diversification and globalization. Besides, the variety of network comes up with more stringent requirements, which will better accelerate the advance of wireless communication technique. As one of the essential portions in wireless communication system, antennas will act the most direct impact on wireless application system performance. Although the conventional designed antennas have good transmission property, the big dimensions can not satisfy the requirements of contemporary evolution of miniaturization. Following the preponderance of small in size, light weight, inexpensive, easy manufacturing as good as likely integration with microwave circuit, microstrip antennas possess great use values and turned to one of the hottest in current study of antennas.This essay chiefly does a study on the analysis and design of miniaturized microstrip antennas. On account of the academic discussion, simulation measurement and empirical demonstration, several nomal miniaturized microstrip antenna structures are provided, which can work at2.4/5GHz WLAN band and3.1GHz-10.6GHz UWB band respectively.Firstly, this paper simply overviews the fundamental theory of microstrip antennas. Through analyzing the structure and principle of the microstrip antenna, this thesis comes up with the technology implementation methods of miniaturization, broad-frequency and multi-band. On account of the analysis of each technology, we start with notion, then make clear the feasibility of each technical implementation and the deficiencies.Secondly, the dual-band microstrip antenna based on2.4/5GHz for WLAN applications is studied. Based on research and perfection of conventional microstrip antennas, a miniatured dual-band circular planar monopole antenna is presented. The radiation element of the proposed antenna consists of a rectangle ring. It is very compact and is very suitable for integration with the RF front-end circuits. The simulated and experimental results illustrate that this antenna can wholly cover WLAN band with satisfactory radiation characteristics.Lastly, the UWB antenna working at3.1-10.6GHz is studied. Based on the research of disc patch antenna, a miniatured CPW-fed microstrip antenna covering the band of UWB wireless communication system is designed. Besides, by introducing the U-shaped slot, a compact UWB antenna which has band-notched characteristic in4.9-6.1GHz can be achieved. It can mitigate the potential interference between UWB and other communication systems. The simulated and measured results show that both antennas can wholly cover the UWB band with satisfactory radiation characteristics.
