We are in such a era that to be physically yong,slim and sexy is unprecedentlyimportant.Dressing up,altering the diet,exercising and taking cosmetic surgery are allbut different ways of managing one`s own appearance.The writer believes that amongthose taking cosmetic surgery is most aggersive,therefore most representative.What`smore,being a part of socioculture environment,cosmetic surgery advertisementsreflect people`s common sense of physical appearace,that`s why this dissertationattempts to estimate the social value lies on woman`s physical appearace by analyzingthe content of cosmetic surgery advertisements printed in newspaper in Guangzhou.A content analysis of cosmetic surgery advertisements appearing between2003and2012in three different newspaper,Southern Urban Daily,Guangzhou Daily andNew Express reveals that appeal points tend to associate woman`s physicalappearance to her interior quality and social status.Moreover,the advertising textssuggest that somehow woman`s physical appearance has a lot to do with theupgrading of her social status and her self-identification.At last the paper discusseshow the logic of consumer society affects people`s relationship with her own and thesociety.
