Environment and climate change caused by gluttonous consumption of traditional sources of energy is arousing ever increasing concern since the turn of this century. With traditional energy sources such as coal and oil draining day by day, all nations are giving attention to the exploitation and utilization of new energy sources. Among a series of new energy programs, nuclear power, solar power and wind power, for example, wind power receives worldwide interest and support because of its environment-friendly, efficient, clean and low-carbon properties.The number of wind power vendors has soared since2010, intensifying competition in the industry. The change of the wind power industry starting from the first half of2011throws CSR Electric Co., Ltd. into difficulty. In order to maintain growth momentum amid radical change of the industry, it must in the first place frame mid-and long-term development strategy fit for the enterprise and clarify the correct direction for survival and development in the future, so as to grow stronger and bigger.This paper provides an in-depth analysis of the internal and external environment of the wind power industry CSR is in and identifies its opportunities and threats by using traditional strategic analysis tools (PEST analysis, SWOT analysis and Michael Porter’s Five Forces Model and etc.) and drawing on related strategic management theories and methodologies. The value chain model is incorporated to analyze the value chain of the wind generator industry. The key resources and core competencies of CSR are analyzed based on how matters stand and its main strengths and weaknesses are identified.The paper then proposes alternative strategies through SWOT analysis by drawing on Porter’s basic competitive strategy model, fixes on the differentiation strategy for the wind power industry based on the development goal and blueprint of CSR and puts forward specific and practical strategic targets for the wind power industry by combining modern smiling line, lean manufacturing and other management thoughts. Moreover, pertinent and specific actions plans are provided as to how to implement the strategies.The development strategies CSR has laid down and put into force for the wind power industry can help it maintain its growth momentum, build up core technical strengths in wind generator and construct a state-of-the-art base of wind generator R&D and manufacturing that is competitive in the world. In this sense, the study herein can also be used as reference to enterprises of this kind in strategy-making.
